Create a report connecting to Excel file on OneDrive

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a new report, getting data from many Excel files saved on OneDrive.

I'd like to create the report on PowerBI desktop, then upload it and refresh data directly online.

I tried to do it in two ways but without success, could you please help me and show the right path to follow?

I tried to create the report on desktop, selecting the Excel files saved on my OneDrive folder as source, but when i upload the dashboard I can't refresh the data online because from app.powerbi.com my files cannot be reach.

I tryed also to create new datasets directly online, selecting the files from OneDrive. The connection with the files works, but when I want to create the new report I'm not able to see the datasets just created, so I can't create a report connecting with 2 datasets..

Any suggestion?

Thank you very much!

Hi  @pasno ,

To connect to onedrive from the Desktop you need to use the WEB CONNECTION option, please read the documentation below:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-use-onedrive-business-links

In order to hhave several files linked you need to createa function based on one file and then connect to the web connector and then use the function to append all the files at once.

Hello @MFelix thank you for your feedback!

Do I have any chance to do a similar thing with OneDrive personal?

Thank you again!

Hi  @pasno ,

Yes you only need to give the Onedrive address so it's doable on personal also.
