Hey all.
The company I work for has a Mysql database on premise that I connect to. I've been asked to help another company that uses the same software but their database is in the cloud as they don't have a local server. I've looked and looked but can not find any answers, and I might be over thinking but I'll take some guidance.
Is connecting to a server on the cloud the exact same as connecting to an on premise in Power Bi? Is it even possible?
For my reports and connection, I use server:port, database, user and password and obviously have to be on site or connected via VPN. I then have a gateway set up that allows for the refreshes.
Does anyone have insight on whether there is any difference connecting to a cloud server? Will I need any different information? I've heard about public/ private keys but not sure if those apply here.
Thank you in advance
You need to be more specific. Cloud is not the same as cloud. Especially the difference between Azure cloud (where Power BI resides) and all other types of cloud.
As long as the Azure service can see your data source (either directly or via gateway) you're good. When you start mucking with keys and dynamic tunnels is when it becomes murky.
