Hi, community
I am trying to connect Power BI Desktop to datasource(tables in Lakehouse/SQL Endpoint/DW in Fabric workspace) as Import mode and it is being blocked. Direct Lake and Direct query works well but only Import is not working and do not know the reason,,,
the error says smthing like I cannot use Analysis Service... (sorry for no image. was not possible to capture due to data policies)
has anyone experienced same or any tips what should i check? maybe it is something to do with network..?
Thanks

Hi @jwryu -The error you mentioned related to "Analysis Services" indicates that Power BI Desktop might be trying to use a local instance of Analysis Services for processing the imported data. Import mode loads data into a local in-memory model (using an instance of Analysis Services). If there's an issue with this instance, Import mode could fail. Solution should be ensure that the required components for Analysis Services are installed and running correctly on your machine. You might need to check if Power BI Desktop can connect to its internal instance of Analysis Services. Reinstalling Power BI Desktop can also help if there's a problem with the internal Analysis Services engine.
if possible pls share the snapshots
Since you're able to use Direct Lake and Direct Query modes, it's possible that there might be network policies or firewalls affecting the Import mode specifically, possibly due to the amount of data being transferred.Try connecting to a smaller dataset to see if the problem persists. If the issue is with data size, you might need to work with your IT team to adjust network or firewall settings.
Additionally, consider whether your organization has specific policies that block or limit the use of Import mode due to security or network concerns.
Hope the above infomation helps.
