Hi all!
I am having trouble connecting from my Power BI Desktop to an Excel file that someone outside my organization has shared with me. The .xlsx file as well as the specific folder path are shared with my user (email), but I am unable to create a connection. I've tried both Sharepoint connector and Web connector (and have also figured out how to get the "correct" URL for the xlsx file).
I always get the error message that my user is not found in the directory, even when I have tried at the lowest level I am authorized for.
So I am wondering how to deal with this? Does the other person need to set up a guest user for me on their sharepoint in general so I can access this particular file?
Thanks in advance for any hint or advice!
@maka1410 , This is what we typically do. We open files in excel, , go to file -> Copy link remove /web=1 , the last part, and then try to open it
Hi @amitchandak , thanks for your reply.
Yes, that's exactly what I did, but I still get the error message that my user is not found in the (clients) directory. (Because I guess indeed it's not there, since only a subpage & file on Sharepoint is shared with me).
So I am wondering if it's necessary to set up a guest user on this Sharepoint to access the file via Power BI?
