Hello,
I have a few Azure SQL tables and I need to create PBI dashboards based on them.
I need to use Direct Connect options.
It works better for me to design and test my dashboards in PBI desktop based on Azure DB tables. Once the testing is done, I publish them to PBI portal, them make the datasets as Direct connect to the SQL azure.
Can I do that?
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm guessing that you would have to do this before loading it into the Service. Perhaps just before you publish you can go to File | Options and settings | Data source settings and edit the data source to make it DirectConnect verses import?

Hi Smoupre,
The option "File | Options and settings | Data source settings" looked very promissing; however, I am not able to find anyhing related to DirectConnect.
Am I missing anything or the option is not there at all?
Thank you.
Hello Allan,
Switching between Import/Direct Connect isn't available yet. We will be actively working on this improvements for future releases.
For now, you will need to work in DirectQuery mode from the start, then publishing it will have the model remain in DQ mode.
Regards,
PQ
Calculated columns and measures don't work currently in DQ mode. So I would wait until this is fixed. 😉
