Configuring Email Alerts for Data Changes in Power BI Reports

Hi All,

I'm delving into the alerting features of Power BI and I am interested in setting up email notifications that would be triggered by specific data changes within a report. My goal is to have an automated system that informs stakeholders via email whenever certain key data points are updated or when certain thresholds are reached.

Could you provide guidance or best practices on how to configure such data change detection alerts in Power BI? Additionally, are there any considerations or limitations I should be aware of when implementing this feature?

Your insights on creating effective change detection alerts in Power BI would be invaluable.

Thanks for your support!

Hi @HamidBee
This is a classic scenario of using alerts.

Please refer to the linked tutorial.

Hi @HamidBee ,

@Ritaf1983 has already provided you with an introduction to alerts.
Here I offer you another feature similar to alerts: Data Activator.
Compared to alerts, Data Activator has a wider range of applications. While alerts can only be applied to gauges, KPIs and cards in dashboards, Data Activator can be applied to reports and supports more types of visual objects. But Data Activator is more demanding than an alert. Alerts don't require you to have a license, but Data Activator requires you to have Premium capacity.

Thanks for this, I will look into it. Just out of curiosity what do you mean by:

"supports more types of visual objects."

Hi @HamidBee ,

Alerts can only be applied to these three visuals: gauges, KPIs and cards in dashboards. But Data Activator can support more than 20 types of visuals.
