Complex Data Model optimization

Hi Mentors,

I am right now handing a data model as complex as the below picture. It contains more than 25 tablets in a single layout.

The model is working for 9 different reports in 9 different tab.

I am thinking of cut it down into 9 different small layouts.

The look-up tables will be the same, but the fact tables will be different.

But facing the below queries in mind:

1. Would it be optimized for the PBIX file? Would it take more or less operational time?

2. Would the file size be increased due to 9 layouts?

I will appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Regards

@sheikh_mishuk I have 100+ tables in my model and I have multiple layouts, layout for each fact table, and related dimensions. I don't think having multiple layouts will have an impact on performance and/or will make a file size bigger. I would highly recommend creating multiple layouts for each management and maintenance.

I would  Kudos if my solution helped. 👉 If you can spend time posting the question, you can also make efforts to give Kudos to whoever helped to solve your problem. It is a token of appreciation!

Hi @sheikh_mishuk ,

The improved relationship view showing a subset of the tables in your model.  It will also make it easier to set properties on tables and columns as the model size grows. When an object (table, column, measure, and so on) is selected in the field list, then all the properties (visibility, formatting settings, default summarization etc.) of that object will be displayed in the property pane, where the values can be changed.

As mentioned by parry2k, it will not have an impact on performance and/or will make a file size bigger. For more details, please refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/business-applications-release-notes/april19/business-intelligence/p...
