Combine two datasets in to view data in a matrix table

Hi I have two datasets I want to join together

I want to be able to view a Table in PowerBI that would return a result like this (I would create a Type column to distinguish as Name and Current/Target apply to both datasets and Capability_ID is the join):

How would I go about joining/ merging queries/ appending? Within the data model the tables are not joined directly but both join to a master list of Capability_IDs.

1. Open Power Query ("transform data" button at top of pbi desktop).

2. Go to top ribbon and go to the "combine" tab.

Just on the right hand side, you should see "merge" and "append" queries.

Hope this helps! Accept as solution if this worked for you. If you need more help post a screenshot of where you get to and i'll answer in a jiffy 🙂

Thanks, this has combined my data perfectly.

However the visual I am using is not grouping the data by Capability Name and showing blanks for QMS Element types Manual, Policy etc. It is only working for the QMS Element System, although the Capability ID and Name fields are working in the appended query I created?

It was the auto-created relationships in the data model between the newly created Appended query and the existing tables that was the issue. Fixed now.
