Clicking on column in stacked column chart, not getting the exact table results

I have a combination stacked column chart with dates along the x-axis and y-axis (columns) displaying spend values.  The spend columns are split into categories (i.e., the column legend).  When I click on a column (i.e., single date) or column segment for a specific date, I get all the lines associated with the category of that segment (i.e., all the dates) but the spend(s) that displays in the table is only associated with the date of the column I clicked.   The other lines' spend values are empty.   I want clicking a column to give me ONLY the line(s) associated with the single date; there should be no lines with empty spend values.   (Just to clarify, there are no empty spend values in the source data; they have been filtered out.)
