Choosing a report template
Hi kylee_anne ,
Power BI does not support fully dynamic report templates that change layout based on option selections or the number of images at runtime, like a template-driven Word mail merge. However, you can achieve some dynamic behaviors using bookmarks, field parameters, conditional formatting, and DAX logic.
Options to consider:
-
Bookmarks & Selection Pane: Predefine several report layouts (templates) as bookmarks, and let users pick via buttons. Each bookmark can show/hide visuals (including different image arrangements).
-
Conditional Formatting and Visibility: Use DAX measures or SelectedValue logic to show/hide visuals or display different content/visuals based on slicer/parameter selection (including swapping images).
-
Dynamic Narratives: Use the Smart Narrative visual, and tie text to DAX measures to update content based on project selection.
-
Dynamic tables/charts: Use field parameters or dynamic measures to swap tables, Gantt charts, etc.
For images:
There’s no native way to have a visual automatically “resize” or change template for 1–4 images, but you can use multiple image visuals, each with visibility controlled by your DAX logic (show/hide based on image count).Resources:
