Hello everyone,
I've recently created some Power BI Desktop reports from home and have been able to successfully connect to our cloud-based SQL Server. However, when I come into the office I get a connection error, because I didn't specify a Port number after the Server address.
To remedy this, I've gone into each Table in turn using Transform Data, clicked the Source option and tried to add the Port number to the end of the SQL Server address. When I do this, I (eventually) get an error saying that "This step results in a query that is not supported in DirectQuery mode".
I understand that this error means, but why would it happen when I simply try to add a Port number to the SQL Server address? I really really don't want to have to re-create the reports again if at all possible!
Many thanks,
Jon
Solved! Go to Solution.
@jonclay , you should go and edit datasource using edit data source setting and give port , instead of changing all the connections at table level

Fantastic! Thank you @amitchandak . That worked. I'm really thankful to you, and also thankful that I didn't have to create those complex reports again!
