Change the text format simultaneously into date format in all tables in a dataset

Hi  Community,

Is it possible to change the text format (date as in text datatype) simultaneously into date format in all tables of the dataset?

Hi @AKHIL_RB_123 ,

 

You can configure automatic data type detection in Power Query for Desktop. After the setup is complete, the next time you connect the data source to Power BI, all data types will be automatically detected and all your dates will be changed to date types.

Hi @AKHIL_RB_123 ,

 

You can configure automatic data type detection in Power Query for Desktop. After the setup is complete, the next time you connect the data source to Power BI, all data types will be automatically detected and all your dates will be changed to date types.

You can select and change multiple columns at once in the Modeling view:

For a more automated solution, you'll probably need to do some scripting with a tool like Tabular Editor:

No, you have to change each column in each table.

 

It is best pratice to use a calendar table with a DateID primary key and display dates, months, quaters and years in your required format.

 

Then have a DateID foreign key in your fact tables raher than dates.

 

You then use the relationships to display the calendar dates in the required format, because the formatting is controlled in a central place.
