Change Source from Data source settings is hanging and doesn't show sources

Expected result would be to open up the view of datasources from the workspaces I have access to.

Currently on 1 specific report (the others seem to work fine), it simply hangs with nothing appearing.

Shared the report file with someone else and they can reproduce the problem so it seems the issue is on the file itself.

The only way I found I can acually switch is to delete the source then reconnect the via the get data button.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?  Last month it worked fine.

Hi @PbQ1 ,

Microsoft Store released the October version early, and some features are causing some issues in use. Please try to update the latest version of Power BI Desktop: 2.137.952.0:

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

Having the same issue amongst my team since last week.

Several users here getting this exact issue.  We have several DirectQuery to AS in a report running in Mixed Mode as part of our core architecture.

  • This white window appears in the taskbar but not on screen and cannot be brought on screen any way we've found.
  • You cannot interact with the Data Source Settings while the white window remains "open".
  • Clicking the X for the white window in the taskbar immediately sends it away and you're just back to where to started.
  • We all have the lastest desktop Version: 2.137.751.0 64-bit (October 2024) although not sure this is even the issue - it may be on the service end.
  • Have cleared cache and restarted a bunch of times
  • It was 100% working on Tuesday 14-Oct-24

Delete and re-add works but is a hassle to carefully make sure you're selecting all the right objects

Unfortunately none of the suggestions worked.

Sources work fine on their own and no changes in credentials, schema or server availability.

Cache was cleared when I did a reinstall of pbi desktop

Nothing complex other than the report being in mixed storage mode.

Source semantic model on workspace > Local Report model (contains calculated tables and measures) > Report

Hi @PbQ1 - Make sure that nothing has changed with the data source (such as credentials, database schema, or server availability). If there are changes, try updating the data source settings manually by going to File > Options and Settings > Data Source Settings and editing the data source connection.

Sometimes cached credentials or metadata might cause issues. Try clearing the Power BI Desktop cache:

  • Go to File > Options and Settings > Options.
  • Under Global settings, select Data Load and click Clear Cache.

If you're using Power Query to load data, check if there are any complex query dependencies that could be causing issues. You can inspect the query dependencies in Power Query Editor by selecting View > Query Dependencies.

Try breaking the report into smaller parts or optimizing the DAX calculations to reduce the processing time.

Hope the above suggestions helps you
