Change Dataset

Hello Everyone,

I am not so used to work with PBI, so i got a question.

I have an excel file of the monthly registry, which is where I update the registry every month. For 2021, I therefore have 12 dataset, which are structured in the same way, but with similar data, one for each month. I uploaded the 12 tables to Power BI. I created the dashboard for the first month. Now what I would like to do is use the same report for all the ohter months, in different sheets.

How do I copy the reports but then change the source table?

Thank you in advance,

Luca

Hi, Merge all table in one and add column with year/filename.

Than you create ONE report and use this column in a filter/slicer.

Merge it in Query, and download to model just one column. Will be easier.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Please create a parameter with text type in the Power Query Editor and the current value is the first worksheet name of Excel.

Then modify the M code of the imported worksheet and replace the worksheet name with the created parameter ("Sheet" -> Parameter1).

Create the report and save the PBIX file. Upload separate PBIX files with different names to generate multiple datasets. Then modify the parameters of these datasets to the corresponding worksheets. Then refresh these datasets, and they will load correct data.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.

Hello,

Thanky for your answer, but not sure about the answer. I try to explain again my problem, which i think it is quite simple to manage.

I already have loaded in power bi some tables from other tables with the same name in an Excel Workbook.

Now, i have created the reporto for one of these table. What i would like to do, is just replicate the same reporto for all the others tables. Is that possible?

Thank you in advance,

Luca

Hi @Anonymous ,

I see that these tables all have the same table structure, just different table names.

If you want to create the same visualization for other tables in the same PBIX file, you can try duplicating pages or copying visuals to other pages and then replacing columns in the tables (but measures and calculated column will need to be recreated).

Or you can follow @AdamBoltryk 's method to associate all tables together and switch table through the slicer.

If you want to create a separate PBIX file for each table, you can create report templates.

Create and use report templates in Power BI Desktop

Winniz
