Cascading Parameters/Filters

Hi.

We currently use SSRS reports which are wrapped in a web template.

The report has multiple related parameters.

In this web template we can select Parameter A and it will reload the list of Paramater B and so on.

Is this possible in Power BI Desktop, service, Templates, Embedded etc.

Thanks in advance.

You can do this with interactions, To do so

  • click on the slicer that you want to be the parent for filtering the child slicers.
  • On the ribbon, menu click the Format tab and click on edit interactions.
  • select the funnel on the child slicer.
  • Click on edit interactions again.

That is all there is to do.

@Sureshot,

You are able to define query parameter or data source parameter and create Power BI report template in Power BI Desktop, please refer to the following blog to get more details.

Thanks but can you explain how to get parameter B to change based on the selection in Parameter A i.e. cascading parameters.

Defintion is one part but cascading was not good in SSRS and so we built a web wrapper to handle this.

Will we need another web wrtapper in Power BI?

@Sureshot,

Power BI doesn't support cascading parameters, about this issue, you can submit a feature request in Power BI ideas forum.

This idea is not specific to parameters, but you can vote it up and add your comments there.
