Cant find the "refresh data" button inside the transform data panel after the last update

Hi there, I'm here to ask for help because within the "Transform Data" panel I can no longer find the "Refresh Data" button, which was used to refresh the preview of a selected query. I believe this is part of the changes introduced in the latest update.

Hi @Marcopbi5

  • This looks like an intentional UI change rather than a bug. You can double-check your Power BI Desktop version under Help >>About, and compare with the Power BI release notes for confirmation.
  • If the option has been fully removed, the only way to refresh previews is to use Refresh All at query level.
  • I’d suggest also raising this in the Ideas / Feedback forum (or via the in-app “Send Feedback” option), since several users may face the same confusion.

I was also facing the same challenge here. But it was resolved just a few minutes ago. You can update your app

Only legacy appearance return it back. I think this is a fatal glitch for Power BI users.

Refresh Preview" button in Power Query disappeared after the August 2025 update.
Try switching to Light Theme or right-clicking a query to find Refresh Preview in the context menu.
Keyboard shortcut Ctrl + R might still work.

Hi @Marcopbi5

This change is due to the recent Power BI update.
The “Refresh Preview” button inside Transform Data (Power Query Editor) has been moved.

  • Now you’ll find it under the Home tab >> Query group >> Refresh Preview.
  • You can also right-click on a specific query in the Queries pane (on the left) and choose Refresh Preview from the context menu.
  • If you want to refresh all queries together, use Refresh All Previews on the same ribbon.

Hi @rohit1991 , first of all thank you for your answer. I looked exactly where you pointed me, but honestly I still can't find the Refresh Preview button there. Here's a screenshot — am I looking in the wrong place?

Hi @Marcopbi5

  • In Power Query Editor >> Home tab, look for the dropdown Refresh Preview button (sometimes it just shows as “Refresh” with a small arrow next to it).
  • If you only see Refresh Preview >> Refresh All, that is expected now. Microsoft combined the options, so you may not see the old standalone “Refresh Data” anymore.
  • The quickest way: right-click the query name (like you did in your screenshot) >> choose Refresh Preview. That is the replacement for the old button.

Hi @rohit1991 , this is exactly where my issue lies. Everything you listed are features I’ve always used and relied on, but since the latest update, they’ve all disappeared. It’s as if Microsoft either removed the functionality or moved it somewhere else that I haven’t found yet. In short, none of the points you mentioned seem to work anymore in the new version — and that’s where my problem starts.

The exact same thing happens to me, I no longer see the option to update the preview... neither in the context menu, nor in the bar menu, nor does it work Ctrl + R tamboco for me.... I think something didn't work with the latest update...
