Cannot change the date display in a visualization - no option to change under Modeling

This might be a really stupid question. Sorry about that.

I just want to change the date display from the current really long one to a simple mm/dd/yyyy. I saw older posts stating that this can be changed by selecting the column and go to Modeling to change date type. However, I don't think there is an option to change date type under modeling. Am I missing something really obvious? I cannot imagine changing the date display is this hard in PowerBI.

Here is what I saw

Thank you so much for the help!

Open your table in the Fields pane on the right and click on LINE_EXPENSE_START_DATE_formatted.

Click on the Column Tools menu if it isn't already highlighted.

At the left your Data Type should be Date.  If the Data Type is Text then that is how the the column was imported.

If it is Date, there is a format dropdown just to the right.
