Hi all,
I'm building a model that requires the import of a table from another Power BI Model published in Power BI Service.
I've noticed the connector options have changed with many now being discontinued and in their place Fabric options, including a Power BI Semantic Model connector. The problem is that this connector only permits Direct Query mode. I've checked this page which seems to highlight this is a DirectQuery connector but doesn't offer any import mode alternatives.
All other documentation I've found is now seemingly outdated. For example, many blogs or solutions suggest changing the import mode here - which is greyed out under this "Semantic Model" connector.
I have a calculated table running off the 'DirectQuery' table which cannot refresh because of the Direct Query mode.
Surely the option to use Import Mode for accessing another Power BI Datamodel has not been phased out. If so, what are my alternatives? It is a huge limitation if you wish to reference that data via calculated columns or calculated tables which will no longer be possible.
Thanks!

Hi @Kaycee ,
There really isn't a 'Make changes to the model' option when your storage schema is Mixed.
If you want to get the table data from the service's semantic model in import mode, use the XMLA endpoint or workspace server URL. this is only available if you have Advanced or Embedded capacity.

If your Current Period does not refer to this, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Hi @Kaycee ,
If you click on the the bottom rigth of the PBI you can access the import mode:
From the screen above you can change to import mode.

Unfortunately, the option to 'Make changes to the model' isn't there.
Also, I'm aware that in the past if I tried to go into the Query Editor when I had a direct query, it would prompt you to create a local model. That has also changed, it simply opened Query Editor with no prompt and because the table imported is in DirectQuery, it doesn't show in that place.
