Hi, @IK
May I ask if you have had this problem before?
First of all, please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, as unstable internet may cause login problems.
Secondly, you can try logging in using another account to see if the problem is with the account itself.
Then, you can check the system logs in the Windows Event Viewer for error messages related to Power BI, which may provide more clues:
You can also enable the trace feature to log events and help diagnose problems:
Options and setting --> Options -->Diagnostics:
C:\Users/<user name>/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Power BI Desktop/Traces
You can refer to the official documentation:Troubleshoot sign-in issues in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Or you can uninstall and then reinstall Power BI Desktop which usually resolves login problems. This process resets any configuration that may be causing the problem.
I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
Best Regards,

Hi @IK -This issue where the sign-in dialog box closes and doesn't proceed to the password prompt in Power BI Desktop can be caused by several factors, such as network settings, system configurations, or outdated versions of Power BI Desktop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1. Check Your Power BI Desktop Version--> Power BI Desktop | Microsoft Power Platform
Make sure you're using the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Older versions can sometimes have bugs or compatibility issues that have since been resolved.
Go to File > About to check your version.
Download the latest version of Power BI Desktop from the official Power BI site.
2. Clear Power BI Desktop Cache
Corrupted cache files can sometimes cause issues with the login process.
Navigate to the cache folder and clear it:
Path: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache
Delete all the files in this folder, then restart Power BI Desktop and try signing in again.
3. Run Power BI as Administrator
Sometimes running Power BI Desktop with elevated privileges can resolve login-related issues.
Right-click on the Power BI Desktop shortcut and choose Run as administrator.
Try signing in again.
