Can't connect to PowerBi through excel

I have users that want to connect to data sources that i have published in the workspace through excel.  Problem is whenever i try to connect to the dataset i always get this error even though they are my own datasets!

Here is a view of the version of the publisher i am using, i updated it today.

Any ideas?  Really need to get my users access to the data via excel otherwise they are stuck with downloading the pbix.

Hi @Anonymous ,

We apologize for the late reply, could you please check that if you can access the report in Power BI Service? Can you download the pbix file from the report created by this dataset? Have you access this dataset through excel successfully before?

We tried to reproduce this issue with following steps, but we did not get the same error.

1. Open Power BI Serviece,  use "get data" - "Files" - "Local File", select a excel file, and Import it

2. Open Excel, then "Connect to data" under Power BI

3. Select the dataset we uploaded, then connect.

Hi there, I can download it from PowerBi service, i can download the pbix no problem.  I just can't access it via excel. I do the exact same steps as you are mentioning and i can't download the data.

I have never been able to connect via excel.....we need to though as right now my users are having to download the pbix files from the service and then do their analysis which is very inefficient.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Could you please check the status of "Enable export" and "Use Analyze in Excel with on-premises datasets" options in Admin Portal?

After we disable it, we can reproduce the same error and it works again after enable.

Hi there,

Unfortunately this is all i see for my admin portal options.

Am assuming this is due to the fact that i am not the admin of the system of our org but a power user.  Can you confirm please?
