Can query parameters be displayed in a report and changed by users?

Is it possible to expose Query Parameters in a report in a way that they can be edited by the end-users in the service (app.powerbi.com)?

Our use case involves end-users querying a huge database for details of one entity using a key (for instance, an account number or any another kind of ID) followed by subsequent operations on the result set (which is a few rows anyway when filtered for one ID).  We are using Direct Query mode (due to the volume of data involved) and have created a query parameter which we use to enter an account number (and this works fine as long as I open the query editor and change the value of the parameter).  When the report is published, it appears that the only way to change the query parameter is through the Settings page on the report/data set and that change applies globally.  Is there a way this query parameter could be exposed in the report in a way that would allow the end-user to enter an ID and fetch that entity's details?  What-if parameters are not an option since the ID field is alphanumeric.

Are there any other ways to obtain user input in a report and pass it through the query layer to fetch only a few rows from a database at run-time?

Thank you

@Anonymous unfortunately not, you have to give permission on dataset for a user to change the parameter value, there is no other way as of now.

I would  Kudos if my solution helped. 👉 If you can spend time posting the question, you can also make efforts to give Kudos whoever helped to solve your problem. It is a token of appreciation!

Hi @Anonymous ,

It is not supported to expose Query Parameters in a report and edit parameter by the end-users in Power BI currently . There is an idea about this issue, please vote it up,  parameter based Report / Dashbord  ,  add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.

@CJ-Flag Yes you can do that, turn on "enable load" on the parameter and that will load it is a table in the model and you can display it from there

Is there a way to display the paramaters in the Report page, without the ability to change them?
