Can I filter data using multiple visuals? Preferably, I do not want to use LCtrl + Click.

I have three visuals. One is a bar chart, one is a table, and the last one is a card.

The bar chart (seen just below) indicates how many datapoints exist in a group of data.

This, in turn, filters the table down from hundreds of IDs to just a few IDs (shown below). In this case, the bar I clicked above corresponds to these 5 ID values.

I would like to then be able to click on an ID in the table above and have it show me some information about that ID in a card.

The problem is that when I click on an ID it resets the bar chart, which in turn also resets the IDs that are displayed.

I know I can use LCrtl + Click, but it's not a very elegant solution.

Another method I found was to use drill-through pages, but, as far as I am aware, that requires the person using the dashboard to right click the ID to then drill through to another page. I don't like this approach because A: the person using the dashboard may not be familiar with the drill-through method, so they may not know to right click the ID, and B, I would like to keep all of the visuals on a single page, if possible.

Ideally, I would be able to filter data down by using the bar chart and the table. Is this possible in PowerBI? If not, does anyone have an alternative suggestion?

Thank you!

Hi @dmelan123 ,

I have not found a good way to achieve your needs yet.

When selecting a bar chart, there are multiple IDs. The page effect at this time is as follows:

vhuijieymsft_0-1715914712820.png

After selecting the ID, the bar chart is not reset, and the Card visual object can also display the content of the selected ID normally. The page effect is as follows:

vhuijieymsft_1-1715914712823.png

Although the selected ID will be highlighted in the table visual, the table visual will display all IDs instead of just the IDs filtered by the bar chart, so it will be more troublesome to find the selected ID when the data set is large.

pbix file is attached.

Thank you kindly for your detailed response! It's unfortunate this is not available in PowerBI. I do hope that someday they allow for some sort of filtering across multiple visuals. Perhaphs it could be hierarchical where in order to filter down to some end-goal, we have to first filter using visual A, then B, then C, ect.

Nontheless, I appreciate you taking the time to get me the information I needed!!
