Calculated measure not showing by month

Why does this measure only show up in a table if I show all dates (daily) and not when I show the month only?

Current Period Interest =
    CALCULATE( [Daily interest],
        ALLSELECTED(Dates[Date]),
        DATESBETWEEN('Dates'[Date],STARTOFMONTH(Dates[Date]),ENDOFMONTH(Dates[Date])))

I'm trying to sho

w the total of the interest calculated for each month.
The correct daily calculated amount shows when I add the "dates" column from my dates table.
