'Button' (Tile) Slicer - Color Customization for On and Off Selections

Hello,

Since the ideas part of this forum is now read-only, I thought to put this here. I would love to be able to format the background colors for the values of the buttons when they are in an 'off' state and when they are in an 'on' state. RIght now, changing the background color of visuals only changes it for the off state, the default for pressing a button is always a dark grey.

Anyone have a workaround for this? Google says this used to be in Power BI but has since been removed.

  • Hello,
I think you can use the new button slicer or switching to chiclet slicers via custom visuals, those sometimes give more control over selected vs unselected colors.
    Best regards,
    Daniele

    Hi getsmithed ,

This is a limitation in the current Tile or Button slicer, where the selected state styling is not exposed for customization.

For scenarios requiring full control over selected vs unselected states, we typically recommend using the Chiclet Slicer custom visual for flexibility, or implementing a button with bookmark driven approach for fully controlled UX in governed environments.

    Thank you.

  • I can't agree more - This slicer behavious is creating more confusion among end-users regarding what is selected and what is not! I hope soon Microsoft will provide more customization options.

Currently, you can change the background colour of the buttons on a button slicer at the bottom of the visual personalisation page, under the 'Button' section. It's almost all the way at the bottom. Here you can change these kinds of visual aspects state by state (pressed, hover, selected, etc.).

Have a look at the buttons I have attached here.

NB: On-object interaction is disabled in my desktop version because there doesn't seem to an option to disable 'Suggest a visual'.
