Basic Data Model/Date Table Question

Hi

Would anyone have an idea as to why this data model is wrong? I want to show the number of tickets raised over time. I have a measure which is basically a count of the rows in the ticket table, however when I connect the date table to the ticket table, it won't work and it's soooo frustrating!

When I check the transmorm data tab, there are two tables which hadn't loaded so I have loaded these but I'm not sure where these would fit/connect to the date table?Basic Model.jpgLoaded Tables.jpg

It's not very pretty, but not really wrong.

Generally data models need to follow the business question.  What is your business question that you are trying to answer from your data?

The number of tickets raised over time but when I connect the date table to the date table and build the visual, I simply get one data point and (blank) where the dates should be.

i didn't build the model, it came pre built as part of the ZenDesk, I just wanted to add to it but it doesn't seem to let me.

Check your date columns.  Could be that one of them is actually DateTime.  (Truth be told, there is no such thing as a Date column. They are all DateTime. But by convention Date columns are pegged at 12:00:00 am ).

I've done that too, I think it's how the additional tables connect to the data model but my knowledge is short when it comes to reference tables, I'm really struggling to get it to work the way I want it to! Could the owner of the data model (zendesk) be stopping me doing certain things?

All your tables shown in the screenshot are in import mode, so you own the data model and can modify it as you see fit.  If you use someone else's dataset you can also pick and choose individual tables and rewire them as you see fit.

You checked the Date columns and they do not contain time components?
