Automation for Power BI Desktop

Hi All,

I am wondering if i am able to schedule my Power BI desktop which have multiple report within and because of job scheduling my entire report will get referesed automatically when my system is sitting ideal say at midnigh .

So, Is there any idea how to do this task.

Any kind of suggestion is highly appriciated !!!!

Typically this is done using the Service, are you not wanting to use the Service and want to automate a refresh from the Desktop?

we are not willing to use the Services.

So is this possible to achieve.

No Not possible you have to  publish the report to power bi serive there you can schedule the data source for refreshing.

Hi Satish,

In power bi desktop you do not have option to schedule the reports what we can do with desktop is we can create and publish reports to server/Service.

After publishing the report you have to configure the gateway for refresh reports,If your using data source is Azure SQL Server then no need to install and configure the gateway.If your using other data sources you have to configure gateway.

After configure the gateway you can schedule the reports for refresh in power bi service.

Then this is not an automated process.

I know we have an option Power BI to publiush but we have to click that publish option maunally.

What i am thinking that we can automate this entire thing and using Macro code we can publish our report on Cloud.

So this is what i am working on....

Any suggestion in that...

Hi Satish,

That you can do with C# or some other code.

In our project our C# developer has written the code using C# he was converted as .exe.

Using that .exe file i can able to publish and create and delete the work spaces and i can generate the embed ur's also.

Hello !

   Can you share the code to do that ?

   I am trying to do the same thing, Because my Datasource is a local Oracle DB and i cannot upload it yet to the Azure (maybe by the EOY).

   I think it is sending keystrokes to the Power BI Desktop Application ? or are you using a Power BI SDK to do that..?

  Any advice/Tip is appreciated..
