Adding Custom Map (JSON) stored in SharePoint to Shape Map

Hi All,

I'm having some difficulty in creating a Shape Map where all the related data are stored within a Teams site (i.e. SharePoint folder).

I have successfully set-up a connection to SharePoint using Get Data > SharePoint folder and loaded in my JSON file to get to the data contained within it.  This part is fine, and appears to be working.

My issue is then adding the same JSON file to my Shape Map visual within the Format > Shape > + Add Map section.

If the JSON is on my local laptop, it works without an issue, but I cannot seem to be able to open the same file when it's in a SharePoint folder.

I don't think I can sync the Teams site to my laptop and then reference the synced file, as that hardcodes my personal folder location in the Query, and I need this to be available to the other members of the Teams site (which means not having any references to my personal storage locations).

Is there any way I can add in a custom map to a Shape Map visual, where the custom map file (in this case a JSON file) is stored on Teams?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi @v-luwang-msft,

Thanks for the reply - appreciate you taking the time.

Unfortunately, the solution you've outlined is not related to the specific issue I'm having.  I'm able to perform the actions you have outlined, and that part is working - so I can access the JSON data in my Query no issues.

However, once I have done this, the next step I need to do is select my Shape Map visual in the Power BI main editor (not Power Query anymore), and select the correct map to use to display the information contained in my JSON (this is in the Shape Map visual > Format > Shape > + Add Map section).  This step is needed to change the map from the default USA image, to the relevant one related to my JSON.

I would like to keep the JSON on SharePoint, but there does not appear to be a way to find said JSON, after clicking on the "+ Add Map" option within the visual itself.

NB - the only reason for me wanting to use SharePoint is so I can share the final PBIX with other people and they will be able to access everything without needing access to my personal files/folders; if that isn't actually an issue, perhaps I don't need my JSON to be stored on SharePoint?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi @AP_27 ,

Please use SharePoint Folder connector instead.

Enter the site URL of your SharePoint in SharePoint Folder connector, if you are using SharePoint online, please use Microsoft account authentication, if you are using on-premises sharepoint, please use Windows authentication.

After loading data into Query Editor, then filter the extension to .json, click on Binary in Content column to expand data of the json file.
