Access to the resource is forbidden

I've seen this error explained in many other posts here and across the interwebs; mostly in the context of SharePoint. However none of them seem to be as it pertains FHIR. I have an Azure API for FHIR implemented in my Azure environment. I built and tested several Power BI reports and dashboards against a DIFFERENT FHIR server set up by another team member. It was NOT Azure API for FHIR but rather FHIR on Azure with an App Service. I didn't set this one up. But I did set up the Azure API for FHIR version. After setting my connections in Power BI to this new URL I now cannot read data in my Power BI reports. I can connect, but I get Expression.Error: Access to the resource is forbidden. when trying to read the data. In the Power BI Desktop.

I have made the service multi-tenant.

I have Cleared Permissions as so many of the other posts recommend.

I have tried using a fresh blank Power BI doc.

Any help?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

The solution was to add the Organizational Account to FHIR Data Reader RBAC(IAM). This was not specified on the Microsoft documentation. I have asked the program manager to add it.

I've opened an incident with the Microsoft Health engineer team. EOY being what it is, I don't expect much from them before next year.

Hi @TerriblyVexed ,

Maybe you haven't added API permissions.

Hi @TerriblyVexed ,

If it was not Azure API for FHIR, you should  registered an Azure Active Directory resource application for the FHIR server. You must pre-authorize the Power BI client application to be able to access this resource application.
