This report contains a number of example maps that can be created using the Icon Map custom visual.
These examples have been built using the latest version of Icon Map being released in September 2019 in the Custom Visuals Marketplace.

Hi everyone
I would appreciate it a lot if you could assist me with this problem
I load my WKT file into Power BI, but most of them don't show up as I send the images.
I couldn't find out what the problem was with those polygons. I struggle a lot.
Hi James,
I tried implementing WKT Map with drill down to circles using my data. When I add lat and long all polygones disaprears. When I drill down using "Go to the next level in heirarchy" I can see the circles. If I remove the lat and long, polygones works and can drill down from region to LSOA successfully, but can't drill down to the circles until I add lat and long. I don't understand what I am missing. Please help me to fix it.
Thanks
Aparna
Hi @jamesdales,
Great work, I love it!!!
I would like to know how you did the revealt trick (Map with Reveal), when you select a point in the map appears the other graph, it is great.
Hi Edwardo
The map has a feature called reveal. What is does is move the bottom of the map upwards when you select something on the map, revealing what's underneath, which can be any other Power BI visuals. It uses Power BI's inbuilt cross highlighting functionaity to filter the visuals underneath to show information related to what you've selected on the map.
There is a little more information here: https://powerbi.jamesdales.com/how-to-use-icon-map/
James
Hi James,
Thanks a lot for your information, also I want to ask you if you have a method or a threshold to define the numbers of coordinates necessary to create the polygon. I mean, for an specific area why to use 100 geographical coordinatesand not 1000.
Thanks in advance @jamesdales
Eduardo
Hi Edwardo
I would always suggest to use the minimum amount of coordinates possible, as the fewer you use, the faster performance will be. There will always be a compromise between showing enough detail vs speed. It's the same with the Power BI shape map.
Also you'll hit the maximum length of a field in PowerQuery which is 32,766 characters, so beyond that you'll need to split the WKT shapes and then concatenate them using DAX in the data model.
James
Hello James,
Is there a maximum number of points to graph the icons, that is, the number of rows has a limit?
Thank you so much @jamesdales
Regards,
Nicolas
There is a limit of 30,000 rows, however I would caution trying to draw 30,000 complex polygons, or 30,000 images as performance will suffer. 30,000 circles however should be fine.
Hi @jamesdales , improvements are amazing first of all.
I have a minor suggestion regarding drilldown experience. If left click drilldown mode is enabled by user and user is at max detail level in hiarercy, left-click on data points may filter selected data point instead of doing nothing. Therefore end user won't need to switch drilldown mode to filter data at final level.
Thanks,
Mustafa
Hi James, Well done!
I am implementing a solution with the WKT option, however, the current version available on the Market Place is the 1.0 and the one you have in the Pbix is 2.0. Any ideia of how I can download the 2.0 or must updated version?
Thanks and Regards,
Juliana Clemente
Hi
Unfortunately I haven't yet been able to release a final version to the store. However the beta version is available to download here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjtMfPSzMLYihd8SLspvlky33OaFvw?e=KfBWhn
Hope this helps in the meantime.
Thanks
James
hi James
i was wondering if you had any ideas when v2 may come out? im keen to try out your WKT option but the beta you linked to didnt work for me (PBIX was corrupted for me)
any ideas on your current plans would be great so i know when i could have a play and see if it does what i need?
many thanks
Richard
Hi Richard
The link here should work: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjtMfPSzMLYihd8SLspvlky33OaFvw?e=KfBWhn but it's a custom viz file, rather than a pbix, so you'll need to add it into an already open report.
I'm resolving some issues that have come out of the beta testing. Once those are resolved, I will release it to the marketplace.
Cheers
James
Thanks James! my BI nievety there 😉 . thanks for pointing out so quickly as a response, much appreciated!
i'll go play!
Thanks a lot for the quick reply!
I will try the link!

Hi James,
I am trying to draw multiple layers of polygon (with drill down functionality) and want to place markers .
How do I implement using your beta version. Please share some insight.
Hi @jamesdales
Just wondering if there are plans to release v2 to the marketplace? or if not, if there's any way to get a download link to the WIP pbiviz version?
Thanks
Hello James,
we are very interested in this component but I notice this is a V2.0 instead of 1.0 released in AppSource (
Great visual James,
Can you let me know, if you want to use a custom set of tiles from mapbox, what are the requirements. What is the strucuture of the URI that you need to pass in. e.g. https://api.mapbox.com/styles/v1/company/xyz.
I've tried various different formats for the URL and can't seem to get any to work, I just get back a blank visual.
Any help greatly appreciated.
