Hi All,
We were looking for a puppy recently and when I went onto the UK Kennel Club website I found it a bit bewildering looking at all of the data. Firstly, there was no map of the uk, and as my geography of the UK wasn't great, this wasn't ideal. Secondly, the key date people look for when getting a puppy is the the date 8 weeks from birth, rather than the date of birth. Finally, many of the puppies were either born well into the past or were a bit too far into the future.
The dashboard attempts to address these points and the green dots are those dates that are closest to the centre of the date selectors chosen. The table updates based on the breed selected and there is a hyperlink to the kennel club website shown next to each owner.
Under the bonnet the M code is reasonably efficient with just 3 fields of data, Breed, URL and Image Url required to enable the scraping of data from the web. There is a downside in that functions and web scraping are not good bedfellows and so the PBIX will only update from the desktop experience. There are some ways around this, but none that I found to be particularly efficient.
Oh by the way the image for the Cocker Spaniel is my own puppy - Kylo 🙂
