Australia has eight states and each one has its own schedule of school terms/holidays that roughly coincide in four terms. There's also variation in public holidays, some of which are observed nationaly, others occuring in one or more states. When you work with schools around the whole country, or even if you're going on vacation in (or even near!) another state and want to avoid the holiday crowds, it's nice to be able to see this information in a graphic rather than the text-based lists available from government web sites.
In this report I've used data generated in SQL Server from term and holiday dates. It's formatted specifically for the report, allowing a horizontal view by state. The colour scheme is from web sites advising on colours that are helpful for people living with colour-blindness issues. I've also added tooltips that describe each type of day and the names of public holidays, plus a half-day indicator for "pupil-free days" (i.e. staff-only days for development activities) that occur in some states at various times.
I'm happy with the result as something that's publicly accessible. It replaces a paper grid report that my company used to distribute internally that was tedious to produce and usually inaccurate.
