Connecting with Dynamics 365 Business Central using data pipeline

I'm trying to connect Dynamics 365 Business Central with my Fabric workspace. I know that it is possible to receive data from Business Central using dataflow gen2, but i'm wondering if there is any chance to receive data from BC into data pipeline not dataflow gen2?

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for the documentation links. I read it all, and now I'm trying to create a connection, but I prefer to do it without Dataverse. An OData connection seems to be the proper way. I have one thing to consider:

  1. When I create a connection with the "Manage connections and gateways" tab in settings, the connection uses OAuth 2.0 authorization. However, I cannot use it in the Copy activity in the data pipeline. Creating a connection to the source in the Copy activity tab only offers Anonymous or Basic authorization, and it gives me an "Invalid credentials" error (In the "Manage connections and gateways" tab in settings, the test connection was successful). Maybe I need to create a gateway to Dynamics 365? Do you have any ideas?

Hi @elpaloo ,

Thanks for your reply. I assume you are following the same - Data source management - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

I just want to know are you not able see the connection in Copy Activity that was created at Manage Connections and gateway ?

Yes, you right.

What's more, only OAuth 2.0 gives me opportunity to connect. Basic authorization throw an error "Invalid credentials" (I'm using the same credentials as in OAuth 2.0)

Maybe I should configure Business Central? Maybe BC won't let me in

Thank you

I don't get it. I found this in documentation:

Is it means that Business central supports OAuth 2.0 instead of Basic authorization but Fabric does not support it?

Okey, Data pipeline supports Basic or Anonymous authorization but when you get Business Central documentation you can see:

Is it mean that Business Central must be authorized via OAuth 2.0 but Fabric does not have such authorization option in Copy activity?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi @elpaloo ,

Yes, your understanding is correct. Currently Copy Activity doesnot support OAuth 2.0

However, your suggestion is definitely valuable! We use customer feedback like yours to prioritize future features. The more users who request the ability to customize backgrounds, the higher it moves on our list.

As long as there are APIs to extract data from a system, you can use Copy activity to copy data from them.

Azure data factory is similar to Fabric data pipelines

It should be similar, but in copy data activity, rest connector does not support any valueable authorization (only Anonymous). So there is no chance to extract data from Business Central to Fabric 😞
