why CLOSINGBALANCEMONTH doesn't work if I use any filter?

I used following DAX formula to calculate the closing balance by month:
ClosingBalanceMonth =
CLOSINGBALANCEMONTH(SUM(GeneralLedgerEntries[Amount]),Dates[Date])
It gives the correct result.

But as soon as I add date filter, it didn't display the result.
