Sum of rows in a matrix not equal to sum Total

As soon as I add a field from another table to the matrix, the totals of the records in the matrix are unexpectedly high. I'm not sure how to fix this. I have a month end balance table that has an amount and an account number id, this account number is also in a table called Selections. Each selection has one account number but is not unique. Each asset record can only have one account number but again, many asset records may have the same account number. If i only include fields that are not in the Selections table, the matrix and visuals sum the data correctly. It's like the relationship is not propagating correctly. These tables are linked together by another table. I think this is causing it to have a many to many relationship?

For example i have an assets table for planid A that has two rows with asset amount of 100 and 5. when i add a field for the other table the rows are duplicated and planid A has four rows with asset amount of 100, 100 and 5, 5. what is going on?

If month end balance has a many to one relationship with plans and plans has a one to many relationship with Selections, does that make month end balance and Selections have a many to many relationship?

A. Before the selections table field is added

B. After the selections field is added
