Sending a report link to a client without them seeing the filters

Hello - hope someone can help.

I have a report that I use to send out data to several clients that I use filters when I come to make individual reports. Several visualisations are used to gather data from various sources.

Previously clients have been happy to receive a pdf version which was easily exported, but now some have purchased Power Bi licences so that they may receive a link to the published report.

The problem is that I don't want them to ba able to filter to other clients.

I have used Manage Roles to filter in the report and [CustomerName] = "insert customer name" does disable the filter.

My second problem is that when I do this I get a 'This Visual contains restricted data' message rather than the tables and charts I can see before export.

Can anyone suggest how I go about resolving these issues please?

Hi. First you should check the forum before publishing, this is a Power Bi Service issue. I'm sorry but this is not that easy as sending link. Publish to web will always generate a public report data. This means is going to be the same for everyone. As public data it can't be restricted. When you add RLS to your report, the data is restricted so it can't be published to web. With RLS only loged in pro users can check the data.

If your customers are paying for power bi pro, just ask them a pro account for you in their tenant and explain you need this to prepare Power Bi Service "the place where they are going to consume power bi". Publish the report there with RLS or with the data filtered in Power Query.

Other would be Embed Report options. That way it generates a link that will ask for them to log in first. With that login you can control the RLS.
