Custom Hierarchy / Dimension for use with slicers

I need to build a custom dimension from my data such that I can drill down from top level to bottom level through slicers. Here is the data I am working with (in the order from top level to bottom level).

So if I were to slice on Radio and North, Company H & J would remain. If I then sliced on Rock, the filters in Region & Vendor would be cleared and all that would remain would be South and Company I. If I then selected Print in the Media Type slicer, everything else would reset and I would be left with Companies A & B (along with their associated Media Source & Region). [Hope I'm explaining this OK.]

What would be the best way to go about this? Is there a way to "group" slicers into an hierarchy? Or would this be done with a Linked Table that establishes the levels? What other caveats would I need to consider?

I found another article that told me to make the hierarchy but don't add the hierarchy as a slicer - add the individual components of the hierarchy to slicers. This seems to work better than the above (I can drill down through the hierarchy appropriately) but I'm still not getting the desired behavior. If I clear the filter at a certain level, it does not clear all the levels below. This only seems to work with DATE hierachies. Any ideas?

I figured out how to make my custom hierarchy in the powerpivot model, but how can I make a set of slicers that respect the hierarchy? I made a slicer from the hierarchy field, but I'm not getting the expected behavior. It generates 4 slicers appropriately, but when I select something at the top level, I would expect that any items underneath would "disappear" (I have hide items with no data selected). This does not happen. all the items at the next level still show up. Any ideas?
