The visualization below reflects prior month-end assets under management (blue) plus committed purchases/sales/maturities (Orange) plus forecasted future purchases/sales (purple). These are summed to get to an ending value (pink) and compared to a target value (yellow).
Currently the purple forecasted section is being fed by a very simple Excel file. This works fine, but I have to refresh my data everytime I change a value in the spreadsheet. I'd like to be able to specify these forecasted amounts as parameters in my visual to do some basic what if analysis.
I'm looking at using parameters to do this, but I want to be able to specify the forecast amount per asset class (i.e. per row). For example, I'd like the user to be able to specify a dollar amount for Agency MBS forecasted purchases. Do I have to create a separate parameter for each asset class? How do I make the Forecasted column smart enough to reflect the proper parameter value for that given asset class?
Thanks for the feedback. The items to be forecasted are known ahead of time. I was thinking of creating a parameter & slider for each of the asset classes and the user could then adjust the slider up/down to reflect the what-if scenarios they are trying to reflect. Something like the mocked-up view below with the parameter sliders at the bottom of the page...
Short of using custom third party visuals there isn't really an option to do this in Power BI. Parameters need to be created beforehand, meaning you would have to know which items you want to forecast.
