Week 2: Reading the Climate Signals

Climate is a topic that’s really close to my heart. In my own life, I try to do small, simple things to help the environment- walking to nearby places instead of driving, carrying my own reusable bags, and being mindful of everyday choices. When I saw that Week 2 of this challenge was focused on climate, I knew I had to take part, even if I couldn’t dedicate as much time as I’d have liked because of work.

For my submission, I focused on telling a clear story about how human activity affects our planet. The storyline I developed is straightforward but powerful: Human activity drives emissions → emissions change the climate system → the system responds physically. I like to think of it as a domino effect: one change sets off another, for example, CO₂ emissions → temperature rise → sea level rise. It’s a chain reaction that shows just how connected everything in our climate system is, and how our actions can ripple through the world.

When it came to design, I kept things simple and minimal. I used only native visuals, avoided animations or unnecessary effects, and focused on accessibility, because I believe the story should be clear and easy to follow for everyone. I enjoy a minimalist design that lets the data and the narrative speak for themselves, without distractions.

Overall, this project is my way of combining my love for climate issues with my passion for clean, thoughtful storytelling. It’s a small contribution, but I hope it helps people see the cause-and-effect chain in our changing world and maybe inspires them to take even small steps to make a difference.
