Simpler "Set Alert" command replaces "Trigger action" in Power BI

Hello Data Activator Community,

In response to your feedback, we have rolled out an improved experience for creating Data Activator alerts from Power BI. The new experience uses more familiar terminology, and requires fewer steps to set an alert. The key changes are:

  1. We have renamed the command to create an alert to "Set Alert". You will find the new command in the context menu for your reports' visuals, in the same place that the old "Trigger action" command was.
  2. We no longer ask you to specify how often to check the visual. We now always check hourly.
  3. We start your trigger by default. This means you no longer have to go into Data Activator to start an alert. You still have the option to edit your trigger in Data Activator, if you wish to do this.

The changes are now live in all regions. They will be reflected in the user documentation later this week. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please post them here. Below is a screenshot of the new "Set Alert" side pane.

The feature that allows the user to decide how often the trigger occurs would be extremely helpful.

In particular, it would help me a lot, as I want my users to be notified as soon as the data changes.

Having to wait up to an hour is really detrimental to our situation.

Are there any updates on this subject?

Hello @Roberto_Vital , this is a frequent request and we do plan to address it.

We have a dashboard where notification should be send ASAP after refresh. When is the new feature planned for release?

I'm really sorry but Data Activator is broken to its core.
1. When I set a Reflex Data activator alert, I can not then use it as the power Automate Alert when trying to do something more with it.
2. Not being able to send emails repeatedly is also such a hole that I just can't believe it was realeased without this feature.

Let say our metrics go down below 50%, we can send email.....ONCE. Then it will stay there forever and Reflex Data Trigger will just sleep....ehh

Hello @KacperSz

1. If you create a Data Activator trigger from within Power BI, then by default the trigger will send an email or Teams message. However, you can edit the trigger within Data Activator to make it start a Power Automate flow instead. Does this address your concern? If not, could you please explain further?

2. Thank you for the feedback, we will look at making regular reminders an option.

Hello @morteza

Thanks for the feedback. As a roadmap item, we are considering making the polling frequency configurable within Data Activator. We are also considering having Data Activator poll the dataset when it refreshes, for import-mode datasets.

Regards

James

That's a good point to check the visual hourly by default. However it would be better to also let users change the latency of the trigger and also the start/repeat times for the trigger, depending on their needs.
