Power Bi alert showing Actions but no message delivered

Hi,
I have created an alert on a PBI table.
Proceeded to Data Activator to fine tune with the following:

and also made sure that the type is correct:

Everything seems to be working:

Unfortunately, I DO NOT receive any messages

only thing that is off is in History:

Error says:

{
"itemId": "",
"correlationId": "58319af3-13b0-4199-89fd-fb9824b15f2d",
"customPayload": {
"code": "DataNotAvailable",
"message": "Unable to process the request. The queried data is not available."
},
"errorMessage": "Request failed with status code 400",
"timestamp": "2025-04-28T14:59:23.101Z"
}

Any clue?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi @SrMatto,

It’s good to hear that the activations eventually fired, though I understand the significant delay makes it less useful for real-time alerting. Based on the behavior and the error message you encountered (DataNotAvailable), it appears that the root cause is related to data availability at the time the rule was being evaluated by Data Activator.

This often happens when the Power BI dataset feeding the alert does not contain recent data, is still in the process of refreshing, or the required data is temporarily filtered out. Check the dataset’s refresh history to confirm it is updating consistently and that the PXQ_USD field has valid, up-to-date values. In addition, you can test the “Send me a test action” button in Data Activator to confirm that the Teams integration works independently of the dataset condition.

If your alerting scenario relies on more immediate or real-time data processing, consider connecting a streaming source like Event Streams or a KQL database—to Data Activator instead of using a Power BI table, which is typically refreshed in batches.

For batch-based processes, tools like Data Pipelines or Dataflows Gen2 might be more reliable for downstream actions, as they offer better control over execution timing. Including a timestamp field in your alert rule can also help prevent triggering on stale data.

Hi @SrMatto,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.

Thank you for sharing the detailed screenshots and error logs. They help clarify the situation. Based on the error in the Data Activator History tab, it seems Data Activator cannot retrieve the necessary data from your Power BI dataset when the alert rule is being evaluated.

Please ensure your Power BI dataset containing the PXQ_USD field is refreshing properly. Check the refresh history in your Power BI workspace to ensure there are no issues with credentials, gateways, or refresh schedules.

Manually open the report and confirm that the PXQ_USD column has recent, valid data, typically within the last 24 hours, depending on your alert configuration. Missing or filtered-out data can cause the alert to fail.

Please test the "Send me a test action" button in Data Activator to verify that the Teams connection is working independently of the live data condition.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Something strange happened.. It eventually shoot all the activations at once, with a huge lag!

Anyway, thanks you for the assistant. As it's a batch process, I going to try with other tools (Data Pipeline)
