Improve Report Page Navigation with an Automatic Dropdown When Tab Space Is Exhausted

Idea Description:

As a Power BI developer, I frequently work on reports that contain a large number of pages. This is often necessary to support drillthrough experiences, development and testing pages, troubleshooting pages, hidden utility pages, and multiple report sections.

Currently, when the number of report pages exceeds the available horizontal space, navigating between pages becomes increasingly difficult. Developers must scroll through the page tabs, making it time-consuming to locate and switch to specific pages, particularly in larger reports.

I would like to suggest an enhancement to the page navigation experience in Power BI Desktop and Microsoft Fabric. When the number of page tabs exceeds the available display area, Power BI could automatically provide a dropdown menu or page selector containing all report pages.

Proposed behavior:

  • Display a page dropdown when tabs can no longer fit within the available window width.
  • Allow developers to quickly search for or select a page from the list.
  • Preserve the existing tab-based experience while providing a more scalable navigation option.
  • Optionally group pages into sections or folders for even easier navigation in large reports.

Benefits:

  • Improves productivity for report developers working with complex reports.
  • Reduces unnecessary scrolling through page tabs.
  • Makes it easier to locate drillthrough, hidden, and development pages.
  • Provides a more scalable and user-friendly experience for enterprise-sized reports.

This enhancement would significantly improve the report development workflow and help developers navigate large Power BI reports more efficiently.

Business Impact: Organizations building enterprise-scale reports often maintain dozens of report pages during development. A more efficient page navigation experience would save time, improve productivity, and reduce frustration for report authors working in Power BI Desktop and Microsoft Fabric.
