Hi Everyone, I am seeing some weird issues on my reports. It almost seems like the visuals are being pre-selected because it shows a border around the visuals with options to pin that visual. Is it a result of a recent update or am i missing something?

  • The behavior where visuals appeared pre-selected (showing a border + “Pin visual” option) was not a bug in most cases. It was mainly due to new UX behavior introduced in Power BI Service.

If you don't want this or find this distracting than you can always turn it off by following below steps:-

    Disable On-Object Interaction

    1. Go to File → Options and settings

    2. Click Options

    3. Open Preview features

    4. Uncheck On-object interaction

    5. Restart Power BI Desktop

  • Hi grazitti_sapna ,

I hope you are doing well today 🙂❤️

Here are some solutions you can try to resolve this issue:

Solution 1: Turn off On-object interaction (Power BI Desktop)

If you prefer the classic experience, you can disable the new UX behavior:

    1. Go to File → Options and settings

    2. Select Options

    3. Open Preview features

    4. Uncheck On-object interaction

    5. Restart Power BI Desktop

After restarting, visuals will no longer appear pre-selected, and the extra borders and header options will be removed.

    Important note

    • This setting applies to Power BI Desktop

    • In Power BI Service, some visual header behavior is controlled by Microsoft and may still appear depending on tenant settings or updates

Solution 2: Disable visual headers for specific visuals

If you want control at the visual level instead of globally:

    1. Select the visual

    2. Open the Format pane

    3. Go to GeneralHeader icons

    4. Turn Icons off entirely or disable specific options like Pin visual and More options

Solution 3: Adjust visual header appearance

If you want to keep the visual header functionality but make it less distracting:

    1. Select the visual
    2. Open Format → General → Header icons → Icon color
    3. Adjust Background, Border, and Transparency settings
    4. Match the colors with your report background or increase transparency to blend the header in

This way, the header remains functional (Pin, More options, etc.) but appears less prominent.

Solution 4: Understand Edit mode vs Reading mode

Visual behavior also depends on how the report is viewed:

    1. In Edit mode, visual headers and borders are more visible by design

    2. In Reading mode, visual headers typically appear only on hover (unless explicitly enabled)
