Trying to connect to a SQL Database

I am trying to connect to a SQL server database but I keep getting this message:

"An exception occurred: Microsoft SQL: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake."

My manager connected to the database but this keeps happening when I try.

Any suggestions would be great.
