    Hi Greg_Deckler,

What I really want is one instance of Report Server (Reporting Services) to which if I publish from Desktop with a live SSAS data source as an SSRS Report that it renders in SSRS but that I can also upload PBIX files that connect to anything and those will open up in Desktop.

Per my knowledge, Power BI Report Server is a different release from SQL Servre Reporting Services. Only Power BI Report Server (pbrs) supports to view Power BI reports online on web portal. And the only supported data source is live connection to SSAS. Reports connecting to any other data source are not allowed to publish to Power BI Report Server from desktop, error will prompt. The same as directly uploading a pbix file from web protal. But more data sources will be added in future releases.

In Reporting Services (msssqlserver), it only allows users to upload a pbix file connecting to any data source, if users want to view Power BI reports, they have to download it locally and open it in desktop.

In short, your requirement cannot be achieved right now.

    Best regards,
    Yuliana Gu
