configuring SSRS with load balancer

Hi All

My configuration doesn't appear to work.    Everything looks okay but if I turn off pbiapp2(app server 2) all good but if I turn of pbiapp1(app server 1)  it doesn't look like it is working with the load balancer. and I get an error

See my steps below

I followed this url

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/install-windows/configure-a-native-mode-report-server-scale-out-deployment?view=sql-server-ver15

Current app servers: pbiapp1/pbiapp2
Power bi instance: https://pbiinst.stuff.org.au
Current Load balancer: https://pbi.lb.stuff.org.au
Installed matching report server version
joined the 2nd instance via scale deployment
both connecting to the same database

Load Balancer Config
Added regkey "BackConnectionHostNames"
To
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0
Added the value: https://pbiinst.stuff.org.au

With : \Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Report Server\PBIRS\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config

Added Machine Key generated using "Generate-MachineKey" to the <configuration> section
Add Hostname of NLB
TO <service>
<Hostname>https://pbiinst.lb.stuff.org.au</Hostname>

UPDATED urlroot of powerbi to
<service>
<UrlRoot>https://pbiinst.stuff.org.au/reportserver</UrlRoot>

Thanks Kez

    Hi kezza04 ,

Are you using SSRS or PBIRS? And what's the version?

My configuration doesn't appear to work.    Everything looks okay but if I turn off pbiapp2(app server 2) all good but if I turn of pbiapp1(app server 1)  it doesn't look like it is working with the load balancer. and I get an error

Could you share us the error message? If there is any personal information, please remove it.

And here are some references, please check if they helps:

    Trouleshooting Failed Requests

If requests do not reach the report server instances, check the RSReportServer.config file to verify that the virtual server name is specified as the host name for the report server URLs:

    1. Open the RSReportServer.config file in a text editor.

    2. Find <Hostname>, <ReportServerUrl>, and <UrlRoot>, and check the host name for each setting. If the value is not the host name you expect, replace it with the correct host name.

If you start the Reporting Services Configuration tool after making these changes, the tool might change the <ReportServerUrl> settings to the default value. Always keep a backup copy of the configuration files in case you need to replace them with the version that contains the settings you want to use.

    Best Regards,

    Icey
