Why can't I modify refresh frequency for semantic model data?

In PowerBI Service,  is the default refresh frequency one day  for semantic model data ? Why can't I modify it, as it appears grayed out? Is it because I don't have the permission to set this option?     Thanks.  I am a newbie of PowerBI.

  • Hi Wenlong,

Apologies, I do not understand the text in the screenshot due to language differences, but the most common reasons for scheduled data refresh to be disabled are -

    • Any of the data sources in the Data Sources Credentials tab may not have credentials configured on the service. Update credentials of all data sources and the scheduled refresh tab should become available.
    • The data source is a local file, like an Excel spreadsheet stored on your local machine, which is why scheduled refresh is not possible.

Let me know if you are still facing issues.

Yes, based on your answer, I have found that it is indeed an issue with my Credentials. Thank you for your answer, which has pointed me in the direction.

    Hi, Wenlong

You should configure the gateway link for your semantic model, and after you have successfully configured the gateway link, you will be able to use this program refresh feature.

You can learn how to configure the gateway link and use the schedule refresh feature by following the link below.

Thank you reply.   I will learn how to configure the gateway link. It is indeed a problem with my gateway credentials.

        Hi, Wenlong

You do need gateways. Gateways play an important role in Power BI Service. A gateway enables Power BI Service to connect to your data sources so that you can configure scheduled refreshes to get the latest data every day at a time you design.
