Semantic model refresh error

I upload PowerBI desktop file to Fabric (Sharepoint), and set up automated refresh through Power Automate.

And refresh error message comes up as below.

But when i open the desktop file, there is no refresh error as below.

I tried to edit data source credentials, but the button is not activated from my view.

[error message]

Data source error:It looks like scheduled refresh failed because at least one data source is missing credentials. To start the refresh again, go to this dataset's settings page and enter credentials for all data sources.

How could i solve this? What should i check from now on?

  • Hi SIESOO02 ,

The reason the Data source credentials section is greyed out or unclickable is that you are not recognized as the dataset owner, or the gateway configuration is overriding it.

    Start with the following -

Take Ownership of the Semantic Model

If another user configured or published the model first, Power BI locks the credentials menu for everyone else.

    • Go to the semantic model settings page (shown in your screenshot).
    • Click Take over. This assigns your account as the dataset owner and unlocks the Data source credentials section.

    Verify all data sources

    • Even if the report refreshes in Desktop, every cloud or on-premises data source must have valid credentials configured in the Power BI Service.
    • If SharePoint, SQL Server, Excel, or another source is used, each one must be authenticated.

    Gateway (if applicable)

    • If any data source is on-premises, ensure it's mapped to an online gateway with valid credentials.

    Power Automate

    • Power Automate triggers the refresh but doesn't manage the semantic model credentials. The credentials must first be configured successfully in the semantic model settings.

Let me know if this helps!

    Hi Bipin-Lala ,

Since you have a local excel file it is not connecting to the datasources because of the gateway missing, you need to install the gateway to get access to the login options.

I did a test and has you can see the message is clear:

Install the gateway so you can access the local file and then the Data source credentials will be available.

  • Hi SIESOO02,

What are the datasources you are using, database, excel files, online sources, are they local or online?

Without specification about your datasource is difficult to understand why you are not getting the credentials.

Hi Miguel, Thank you for your answer.

      the data resources are mixed.

open api & powerplatform dataflow & local excel file.
