Schedule Data Refresh Issue

Hi,

I have a report that gets data from on premise DB and cloud service runs on oauth. I am able to successfully build report and publish to power bi service. Now when I am trying to schedule the refresh, PBI service is expecting me to configure both on premise and cloud service data sources under gateway management. If I configure like that I don't have a way to specify oauth for my cloud resource. If I specify only on premise datasource the gateway is not showing up for selection and schedule. Also I don't have a way to specify oauth for my cloud data source (AAD oauth). This has become a blocker for me. Can't I have both on premise and cloud sources in one single report? This is a common requirement and bothering me alot.
  • Hi bveerendrakumar,

Currently, there is a limitation that OAuth is not a supported authentication scheme with the On-Premises Data Gateway. You cannot add data sources that require OAuth.

To work around the issue in your scenario,  you can try using the Personal Gateway to schedule refresh for your dataset.:smileyhappy:

    Hi bveerendrakumar,

The reason why the online data sources have to go through the gateway is to keep your on-prem data secure, especially when you have mashup scenarios.

If is use personal gateway will I be able to use both on premise and cloud data sources by overcoming the authentication issue?

    Yes, I think so.:smileyhappy:

      Hi,

Thanks for the response. Here the point is my data source is cloud source. Why should I configure cloud data source in gateway which is meant for on premise. PBI should be using gateway only for the sources that are onpremise and for cloud sources it should go through normal flow.

Is this by design? If is use personal gateway will I be able to use both on premise and cloud data sources by overcoming the authentication issue?

      Thanks,
      Veerendra.
