Problems Refreshing on Service

Hi All,

Im having the following problem. Im getting a refresh error on the service while on the desktop version its working well. I have two main data sources.

- Analysis services cube

- Sharpoint Folder

Both of these are imported into thier respective tables and then appeneded together to create a master tabel (33_Master). below you can see the error codes that the service is though out when refreshed online.

Underlying error code:	-2147467259 Table: 33_Master.
Underlying error message:	SharePoint: Request failed: Unable to connect to the remote server
DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingHResult:	-2147467259
Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.DataSourceKind:	SharePoint
Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.DataSourcePath:	https://xxx.xxx.xxxx.xxxxx/xxxxxx
Microsoft.Data.Mashup.ValueError.Reason:	DataSource.Error
Cluster URI:	WABI-NORTH-EUROPE-redirect.analysis.windows.net
Activity ID:	XXXXX
Request ID:	XXXXX
Time:	2019-12-18 10:00:40Z

I tried deleting the appended master table (33_Master) and published to the service. And had no issues with the refresh. Sources were refreshing fine on the service.

What could be causing this problem ?

Thanks for any help,

regards.

  • Hi there

Could you confirm that the Gateway Server can connect to the SharePoint Folder?

      Hi Gilbert,

In Gateway section i have a red x on sharepoint. so im assuming it is not connecting. Although sharpoint is showing as not connected in gateway when both data sources are not appended together, Everything refreshes without issue on service. do you know why its happening and how i can fix?

      Thank you

        Hi there

What happens is when you are trying to merge 2 different data sources where one is cloud based and one is On-Prem it has to do all this via the Gateway.

So you will need to create a data source in the Power BI Service Gateway to your Sharepoint site. This will then give you the option to connect.

    Hi Anonymous

If your dataset is only from Sharepoint online, you needn't install the gateway. While if there are other on-premise data sources besides the Sharepoint online (there are on-premise data sources and cloud data source mixed in the same dataset), you need to install and configure gateway following the steps in the link above, especially don't forget to configure it to "Allow users 'cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster".

      Hi V - Diye,

I have both Sharpoint online(Cloud) and also analysis service cube. I have no personal gateway running on my behalf. They both live within same dataset. Everything refreshes fine on the service. The issue comes when i use append to combine the data all in one table. Then i have refresh issues on the service.

Do you know what could be happening?
