Data Flow EffectiveUserName Error

Hi all, I am attempting to create a dataflow to a SSAS database and getting the below error.  The gateway says online.  What can I do to resolve this?  I have tried everything that I know.

Thanks in advance!

An exception occurred: Received error payload from gateway service with ID 24947: AS Mashup data source is missing EffectiveUserName. (Session ID: 0417a9e1-39bf-401c-814a-53a648e143e2, Region: gov)

  • Thank you for the response.  We are looking at all these options, which I think we have done.  Still getting errors.  What should be an easy fix is not.  And we are working with Microsoft support as well.

  • DPCCGF The error might be because the EffectiveUserName property is not enabled on the SSAS server. Ensure the gateway is configured correctly, and the account running it has admin rights on SSAS. Verify user mappings are accurate and revalidate the SSAS credentials in Power BI Service. Update or correct any misconfigurations to resolve the issue.

    Hi DPCCGF,

Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.

Thank you Akash_Varuna  for the helpful response.

The error "AS Mashup data source is missing EffectiveUserName" usually means the gateway isn't passing the user's identity to SSAS correctly

    Please follow below steps to resolve the error;

1.Make sure the on-premises data gateway is configured properly and online.

2.Please Enable SSO (Single Sign-On) with Kerberos in the SSAS data source settings in the gateway.

3.Check that user mapping is set up correctly in the gateway for the data source.

4.Re-enter credentials in the dataflow settings and ensure the correct authentication method is used

5.Make sure the gateway service account has impersonation rights on the SSAS server.

      Hey DPCCGF,

Thanks for sharing your experience!! I'm actually running into the same error right now
“AS Mashup data source is missing EffectiveUserName” and my gateway and connection also shows as online.

Did you ever find out what the actual issue was? And if so, what fixed it?

Would really appreciate it if you could share what ended up working for you cause I'm stuck at the same point and would love any insight!!!!

      Thanks a lot
